How I Write About Wine
Mary Margaret McCamic, Master of Wine
First and foremost, thank you for reading what I’ve put to page. I’m so glad you are here.
I feel it necessary to begin with a few disclaimers: I am the General Manager of Karolus Wine Imports which represents the wines of Domaine Bonneau du Martray in the United States. I have held that position since 2017 in addition to my role as sales manager in Napa for one of the most sought after wines in the world. I am also a Master of Wine, and I love Burgundy. It has been my passion for nearly two decades.
When I write about wine, I am writing from my own experiences, travels, and perspectives. I love to read the work of my friends and fellow Burgundy lovers, including but not limited to Charles Curtis MW, Jasper Morris MW, the late Clive Coates MW, Jeannie Cho Lee MW, and beyond. If I have specifically consulted a book to confirm an element of my own knowledge or notes, I will list it at the end of the article. Otherwise the views are entirely mine through my own experience. I also find it important to note if I discussed a particular idea or viewpoint with another friend or professional. These are my very well-educated opinions.
I write about my travels and tastings without prompting; in other words, no one is asking me to do this for them or to represent their wines. I do it because I want to share the incredible stories that I have been lucky enough to be a part of over the years.
I am not selling any wine to any readers. My passion or excitement for a wine, including the wines I represent, comes from a place of sincerity and joy.
I like to relate wines to life. Prior to earning a master’s degree in teaching, I earned a B.A. in English with a minor in creative writing. I fell into wine because I fell in love with it, and realized that it brings together everything about the world in addition to being a wonderful lubrication for discussion and learning.
With that, thank you for visiting, and I hope you will stay a while to help me chase Burgundy, on the page.
